Detectives investigating shooting in Avon Park

AVON PARK -- Highlands County Sheriff's Office detectives are investigating a shooting that took place in Avon Park last night.
A call to the Consolidated Central Dispatch Center at 8:27 p.m. advised that there was a fight among several people in the area West Pleasant Street and Byrd Avenue. Shortly after the initial call, it was reported that shots had been fired.
Deputies arrived and found that one person had been shot. The victim was airlifted to a regional hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call 863-402-7200 or email detectives@highlandssheriff.org.
