Bok Tower – “Singing Tower”

Bok TowerLocated north east of Wauchula on Highway 27 in Lake wales is Bok Tower garden, a botanical garden and sanctuary. The tower was built on one of the highest points in florida and is two hundred and five feet high.

The tower is ofter referred to as the “Singing Tower” because it houses one of the world’s finest carillons. Designed by famed architect Milton Medary and beautifully crafted Lee Lawrie.

The tower is not open to walk through however you can enjoy daily concerts from it’s carillon bells. The Bok tower gardens are open to visitors and has 250 acres of gardens and nature to enjoy.

Highlands Hammock

Highlands Hammock State Park is a 9,000-acre (3,640 ha) park west of Sebring. The park opened in 193 and became one of the four original Florida State Parks when the state park system was created in 1935.

The park includes nine trails that can be accessed from a scenic three-mile (5 km) loop drive. The park includes an eleven-mile (18 km) trail can be traversed by bicyclists, horseback riders or wildlife viewers and is also part of the Great Florida Birding Trail. Enjoy a walk through an old-growth bald cypress swamp with Cabbage Palmettos, ferns, bromeliads, orchids and other epiphytes on an elevated boardwalk. Some trees are believed to be over a thousand years old, including what is possibly the largest oak in Florida, with a girth of over 36 feet. Guests can also enjoy picnicking, ranger guided tours, a campground with full hookups, a playground, as well as “the Hammock Inn” restaurant.
